CHRONOLOGY OF THE PROJECT

1987 The Society Torre de Collserola was constituted and the technical parameters of the project were stablished.
1988

International competition for the design of the tower. Award for the design of the project to the British Architect Sir Norman Foster and OVE ARUP & Partners engineering.

The location of the tower is agreed: Turó de la Vilana.

First geological investigation of the ground conditions.

1989

March: Definitive project prepared by Sir Norman Foster & Partners and OVE ARUP in collaboration with "Ingeniería CAST".

June: Design put out to tender with eleven European firms taking part.

July: Detailed geological exploration of the ground conditions.

December: The proposal from "Cubiertas y Mzov" wins the tender.

1990

12 Feb.: The minutes including the second description of the ground plan is signed.

28 Mar.: The foundation-slab was laid.

15 June: First concrete poured for the foundations.

24 Aug.: Slip-forming of the concrete shaft commences.

28 Sep.: The tube and the lattice structures are introduced into the shaft.

Decemb.: First setting of provisional guys. The construction of the steel platform structures begins.

1991

March: The slip-form works to the concrete shaft are completed.

25 Apr.: The tube and the lattice sections are raised to the upper part of the shaft.

7 June: The platforms are lifted by two metres above construction level.

11 June: The final lifting of the platforms starts.

14 June: The platforms are lifted into their final position.

July: The platforms are attached to the shaft. The final assembly of the exterior staircase begins.

Septem.: The installation of G1 and G2 guys is completed and the provisional guys are dismantled.

3 Oct.: Construction crane is dismantled.

25 Oct.: The upper lattice section is hoisted into position.

31 Oct.: The installation of G3 guys is completed.

4 Nov.: Lifting of the upper tubular steel section begins.

19 Nov.: The upper tubular steel section is lifted into its final position and the tower attains its final height.

25 Dec.: The tower is floodlit to coincide with Christmas celebrations.                                                

1992

January: The supporting platforms for the FM and VHF antennas are completed.

May: The installation of the radiant systems, the transmitters and multiplexors is completed.

June: The broadcasting of all TV channels from Torre de Collserola begins.

27 June: Inauguration day.

21 Sept International prize "Puente de Alcantara"

1993

January: Begining of FM Radio Broadcasting emissions.

March: Opening of the public activitie of the observatory.

May: Begining.of the renting activitie of infrastructure services to several users (taxi, transport, companies of services, security).

June: Prize FAD of architecture and prize "La opinión FAD".

1994 Replacements and complements in the capacity of radioelectric connections.

Digital connections.

Installation of private FM transmitters.

Increase in number of clients- users of the Tower.

1997 First experimental proofs of digital Radio and TV diffusion.
