Construction of The promoter of the project and the
current owner is Torre de Collserola S.A. (ltd.) whose shareholders are Telefonica de España S.A with 30,40%; Retevisión S.A. with 41,75%; Centre de Telecomunicacions i Tecnologies
de The tower has a total height of 288
meters and it is located in the Collserola mountain range which runs parallel
to the Mediterranean Sea.The location is a place known as Turo de The complex comprises the Tower and an
Auxiliary building, which houses services for the installations.The Tower
itself consist of three parts: a concrete shaft, just 4.5 meters; a tubular
steel mast of 38 meters lenght and, bringing the Tower to its full height, a
45-metre stretch of latticed steel. Thirteen platforms, with a total floor
area of 5.500 meters have been constructed between the 84-metre and the
152-metre points of the Tower.The tenth platform has been designed as a
Public Viewing Deck 560 meters above sea level, affording excellent views
taking in the city and its environs, the Mediterranean Sea and the Catalan
hinterland up to distances of over 70 kilometres. The viewing deck is reached
from inside the mountain by means of an elevator which travels up the outside
of the concrete shaft. The elevator is glazed to permit panoramic viewing,
and its speed of one meter per second takes the public to the Observatory in
under two minutes. A second lift, similar to the first
but without the panoramic views, is designed exclusively for access to
maintenance of the telecommunications installations. In the base of the
Tower, which is built into the mountain, are housed a reception area and an
automatic cafeteria ,designed to make visitor's wait more agreeable.
